Cashmere doesn't follow trends. It predates them, outlasts them. It is one of the few things in a wardrobe that you never have to think twice about, not whether it's still relevant, not whether it goes with anything, not whether you'll still want it next year. You will.
And unlike most things that carry a higher price, cashmere genuinely earns it over time. A well-made piece gets better with wear. Softer after every season. Five years in, it fits differently: not worse, but more yours.
Cashmere needs a little more care than most things, but not much. Learn the basics once and it becomes habit. Do it right and your pieces will last and improve for years.
1. Hand Wash Only
Cool water, specialist cashmere wash or a gentle detergent. Handle softly — no wringing, no scrubbing. Hot water shrinks it permanently.
2. Always Dry Flat
Lay flat on a towel and reshape while damp. Never hang it to dry — it will stretch. No direct heat, no sunlight.
3. A Mark of Quality
Pilling happens, especially early on. It's not a quality issue — it's just how the fibre behaves. Remove pills with a cashmere comb, gently.
3. Fold, Never Hang
Always fold, never hang — hangers distort the shoulders over time. Store in breathable cotton bags, not plastic. Make sure pieces are clean before putting them away for the season.
3. Wash Less, Wear More
You don't need to wash it every time. Air it out between wears. Every three to five wears is plenty — overwashing shortens its life.
