Wakakuu's social initiative Be the Change recognizes and supports one organisation each month which makes a difference in our society. This month we support the Wildhood Foundation.
Wildhood Foundation is a Swedish non-profit organization which fights poaching and illegal trade in wild animals to prevent our most iconic and threatened species from getting extinct in the wild. Wildhood Foundation raises funds and awareness to support selected local efforts and efforts in Africa that makes hands on difference for the wildlife.
One example of an organisation Wildhood proudly supports is AKASHINGA, the world’s first all-female anti-poaching unit. These power women are front-line warriors committed to protecting Africa’s most vulnerable species and to securing a positive future for their communities..
As an effect of the Covid-19 crisis we see devastating consequences for the wild animals and their habitats. In the wake of a complete disappearance of tourism as a source of income in African countries, funding for protection of wildlife and wilderness has been greatly reduced. With the lack of funding sources, rangers across the continent are being left without resources to operate and sent home. When valuable ecosystems are now being abandoned and left without staff, they open up for poaching syndicates. This is a serious threat that needs to be fought now in order not to risk unique wilderness areas and biodiversity being lost.
Please join us in supporting Wildhood Foundation's fundraising for increased protection of wild animals during the Covid-19 crises. Follow @wildhoodfoundation and read more about how to donate on Wildhood.org/donate.
